DAYS 6 & 7
DAY 6—Monday May 22
As we were
all very drained from the peak of our festival experience yesterday with the
after party, not much happened today. We made it to Cannes, but all saved our
reviews for the last minute, so a group of us sat down by the bag check and
wrote them. After this, we headed back to JLP, ate pizza, and went to sleep.
Onto the next day.
DAY 7—Tuesday May 23
I
approached today with more hope than yesterday. A whole new set of experiences
waiting for us on the day ahead. I headed to Cannes solo to catch an early
morning screening of a French film titled The
Teacher. It was about a teacher at a prestigious high school in the city of
Paris, and he ends up getting tricked into teaching in the ghetto suburbs. It
was a really enjoyable film, and they actually filmed a part of this in
Versailles, which I would be visiting in the coming weeks! Caitlin, Hannah, and
Paige watched a film in the theater next to mine, so after our films we went to
get pizza before the next one. Caitlin and I then went to go see a horror film
called Do You See Me. This turned out to be a comedy, as almost everyone in the
theater except 3 of us left before it was over. Then, we saw The Square, and I actually
really like this movie—it was so funny. After the film, I found out that I was
a part of a small percentage of people that really enjoyed it because it was
very long. I snuck out of the theater a little early to catch a train back, but
then the train ended up being broken anyway, so we ubered back. I left early because
we had to eat dinner and get ready before the party at the American Pavilion.
This was the Queer Night themed party and it was hosted by John Cameron
Mitchell! (The same director that invited us to the after party a few nights
ago!) Luckily he emailed Kohn and told us to get there early, because the line
for this party was arrround thee block! Also heard that there was a line the
entire night to get back in (so good thing we didn’t leave). We walk in and
they greet us with glowing headbands, beads, and light up glasses for this
colorful night. JCM is DJing this party with another guy and we immediately go
right to the front. We danced the night away AGAIN and then headed home for the
next day.
