DAYS 3 & 4
DAY 3—Friday May 19
Today was a
day loaded with films. A whopping three! Before heading to the cinema, we met
with Gil Robertson, a film critic of African American cinema. During his talk,
a lady came up and told us to apply for an internship next summer with the
Oscars. I will be doing that. After this, Kelly and I headed to go see a film
titled M.F.A., which is about an art student who was raped, and then goes to
seek revenge upon (murder) her rapist and others. We begged for Okja tickets
for about 20 minutes and started to notice that there weren’t really any
circulating, so we gave up. But we did see this film later on, just not at the
grand theater. We see Okja, and immediately want to become vegetarians, but
then find ourselves at Steak n’ Shake 2 hours later. As we exited the theater
from seeing Okja, we notice other friends at the front of the line to see Jupiter’s Moon. Well, here we go onto
film number three. I was very confused by this film, but it might have been
because I fell asleep smack in the middle of it.
DAY 4—Saturday May 20
Another
day, three more films. Caitlin, Hannah, and I head to the Hotel Gray to go see Ali, the Goat, and Ibriham. Small
theater, but great movie, except some parts of it were extremely loud, even ear-piercing.
After, we went to the AmPav to fuel up before meeting with actor Roger
Guenevuer Smith. We head to the Hotel Esterel and make our way up to the
rooftop for our meeting. He is a character. I knew him, and most people know
him, as Smiley from Do the Right Thing. He
didn’t look anything like he did in the film, but it was still a surreal
experience. After this meeting, we headed back to the palais to go see the
debut of Kristen Stewart’s very first film directed, Come Swim. Ty and I got front row seats, and then she walked in
right past us. I forgot she bleached her hair and shaved it off. And then, we
headed to our final film of the day, 120
Beats Per Minute. I enjoyed this one, but it was way too long. We returned
back home to JLP, all too excited for the next day to come to fall asleep.
